Promoting innovation in services - Information day on new call for proposals

Some 75 persons attended the information day organised by DG Enterprise and Industry for the new call for proposals to create a European Innovation Platform for Knowledge Intensive Services, launched under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP). The aim of the Platform is to facilitate the creation of more European innovation champions in the field of services. Based on a one-stop-shop approach, sectoral networks will offer integrated support packages to young promising growth firms active in knowledge intensive services. The networks will be built on public private partnerships connecting the research, incubation, financing and clusters angle. They will be complemented by a horizontal action offering more general support to the overall initiative.

"This is not just another set of Community funded pilot actions", said Reinhard Buscher, Head of the Innovation Policy Development Unit. "What we are aiming at are better innovation policies that target in particular young technology-oriented service companies with high growth potential, the so-called gazelles. These calls for new support mechanisms that are closer to the needs of these companies and that are less bureaucratic. Examples of such modern innovation policies concentrating on companies with highest growth potential exist in Europe, but they are still too rare. This is what we want to start changing with this new Europe INNOVA initiative."
