Subject: Cooperation on your ICT proposal
Message:

Dear Mr. Cabrer I Vilagut,

I found on the CORDIS website your partner search for the proposal "gLOCALid geo-semantic NIS for Trusting Critical Infrastructures STREP FP7-SEC-1".

I'd like to express my organization interest in joining such proposal if you're going to present it under the ICT call 3 with deadline on the 8th of April.
My organization name is Fondazione IARD. Fondazione IARD ICT Division focuses on research and development of innovative solutions targeting major enterprises, SMES, public bodies, research institutions and no-profit organizations, with the goal to support them accessing state-of-the-art technologies, while reducing costs, human effort, improving the quality of work and the impact of services on their beneficiaries.

The ICT division is highly specialized in the development of semantic platforms based on J2EE standards.
Such platforms is capable of managing the digital asset (guidelines, operative and management procedures, etc.) of a large enterprise or a SME or providing a conceptual perspective of digital resources (white papers, research results, publications etc.) for research purposes.
A correct application of knowledge management requires integration between:
– The cultural domain in the form of ontologies with which various topics are efficiently related to each other;
– advanced computing technologies to attain a productive solution, which identifies information and knowledge as distinct entities.

The achievements so far:

The team has already developed an indigenous categorization engine capable of applying a specific ontology on a document to extract automatically domain specific concepts and relations in an XML format.

Grid Computing is used as a backbone in the architecture for providing semantic solutions. Grid computing creates an integrated and advanced virtual infrastructure providing immense computational and storage capabilities. Fondazione IARD offers a Globus and Condor based grid infrastructure to its beneficiaries for quenching their computational intensive activities.

The principal advantage of using Grid Computing in large enterprises enables the users not only to access the corporate information around the globe but also to identify and to take advantage of free computing resources from the passive part of the enterprise. Institutions conducting research activities are even more advantaged by this approach, since their need for ever-increasing computational power is answered right away.

As for today, Fondazione IARD is able to manage the complete life cycle of the solution it offers to the beneficiaries, from definition to integration of business models, system design and architecture, security analysis, implementation of security standards, communication components. It also offers personalization of graphical user interface and access modules and customization of requirement specific data and analysis modules.
Fondazione IARD is committed to raise the level of knowledge management to allow knowledge-based activities to be carried out in optimal conditions, maximising the return on investments in Information Security and minimising the costs of planning, implementation and management.

Knowledge Management System (KMS)
Fondazione IARD emphasizes knowledge management tool as a Semantic platform for organizing the digital resources. Our Knowledge Management System (KMS) is a combination of a DMS (Document Management System) and a semantic analyzer.
The semantic analyzer is a completely implemented in-house platform for analyzing heterogeneous documents applying a domain specific ontology. This semantic analyzer can be verticalized to any field of operation (Chemistry, ICT, Insurance, Banking, etc.) with the help of the domain specific ontology. As consolidated working approach we are used to work with experts of a specific domain who will provide the necessary information and context analysis in order to realize and customize the best possible ontology. We are experts in creating these ontologies from a technical point of view but the ontology contents is generally provided by the specific domain experts.
Our knowledge management system provides an intuitive and user friendly graphical interface for accessing the documents published and analyzed by the system. The system also grants multi-level search capabilities (free text or metadata oriented) for retrieving the information. The documents published in the system are navigable directly from the concepts defined in the ontology. The DMS can be parked on any kind of repository starting from a simple Filesystem to an already managed complex repository like sharepoint.

Applications
The KMS we are proposing is already in use within our organization. It has been implemented to analyze technical documents with a specific ontology customize to suit our procedural needs. A specific implementation for health operators has been developed in the framework of the COCOON project (IP project co-financed by the EU in the 6th FP – www.cocoon-health.com).
A demo of the KMS is already on the way an it will be remotely available soon. We’ll let you know as soon as you’ll have the opportunity to try it.
